Is Kirkland Minoxidil legit? How to verify what you're buying
The product itself is entirely legitimate — it's Costco's own store brand of an FDA-regulated OTC drug. The thing actually worth scrutinising is who you buy it from.

The product is real, and here's why
Kirkland Signature is Costco's private label. Minoxidil topical solution 5% is regulated by the FDA as an over-the-counter drug under the OTC monograph system, which sets the permitted active ingredient, strength, labeling and directions. Costco states that its Kirkland Signature over-the-counter medications are generic versions of their national brand counterparts and are subject to the same FDA manufacturing standards.
The carton itself invites the comparison, printing “compare to Men's Rogaine Extra Strength active ingredient.” Same active ingredient, same strength, same inactive ingredients, same directions — the full comparison is here.
What to actually check when buying
Since Kirkland Signature is normally sold through Costco, most other sellers are resellers — including us. That's perfectly legal, but reseller quality varies. Here's the checklist:
- Sealed carton, not loose bottles. The carton carries the Drug Facts label, lot number and expiration date. Loose bottles have been split out of a multi-pack, stripping the labeling the FDA requires.
- The seller can state the expiration date.If they can't or won't, walk away — especially for a large supply.
- US-based, with US shipping times. Long transit in heat degrades topical solutions, and imported packaging may not carry US labeling.
- A written return policy. Legitimate sellers publish one. Ours is here.
- A price that makes sense.Nobody sources it cheaper than Costco sells it. Prices well below Costco's usually mean near-expiry stock, grey-market imports, or counterfeit.
Checking the carton when it arrives
- Manufacturer's seal intact, carton not opened or resealed
- Full Drug Facts panel printed on the box, in English
- Lot number and expiration date printed (not stickered over)
- Bottles sealed, correct 2 fl oz (60 mL) size, dropper included
- “Minoxidil Topical Solution USP, 5%” on the label
If anything looks off, don't use it — contact the seller for a refund and, if you suspect counterfeit product, report it to the FDA.
How we sell it
We buy sealed cartons wholesale and ship them new, in full manufacturer packaging, from within the United States, with free shipping and a 30-day return policy on unopened product. If you want the expiration date on the lot we'd ship before you order, just ask— we'll tell you.
We are an independent reseller and are not affiliated with or endorsed by Costco Wholesale Corporation or the Kirkland Signature brand.
